Hotan Museum

This small two-room museum houses a good exhibit of Hotan area artfacts,including pottery animal and figures,clay figures,money,clothing,carv-

ed wooden beams from Niya,silk and carpet fragments,fresco samples,jade lamps,Tibetan bronzes,jewellery,chased silver and gold utensils,and documents.The well preserved corpses of two Buddhist monks,one aged 30-35,the other aged 10-12,are resting in decorated coffins of wood (assembled without nails),their feet tied together so as to achieve final peace without any further wandering.They date from the fifth or sixth century and were unearthed in recent digging within the city limits.The museum is located on Tanayi Nan Lu next to the Jade Factory.
