Adigar Mosque

Adigar Mosque with a square of the same name is at the heart of the city, meaning”a place of praying and celebrating in festivals”.It has a history of about 500 years. The mosque itself is a magnificent Islamic architecture, the whole complex occupies 16,800 square meters and consists of the courtyard, the Hall of Prayer, and the Gate Tower and as well as some other attached structures. During Islamic festivals, thousands of Uygur people gather in the Mosque and the adjoining square to pray and after pray, they dance in the square with the rhythms of the music played by a band of Suona (an woodwingd instrument) and Naghla Drums. The square becomes a sea of joy and celebration. And it is at this occasion that the unique Uygur shaman and Dolani dances are seen here.
